Case 003 [Action/Voice] (Backdated to the afternoon of 4/20)

[Doctor's appointments are a little bit like dating. You give someone all your information, they tell you to take off your clothes, and sometimes you end up with a hand shoved inside you.

...That's a bit of an exaggeration, actually. So where did the musing that they're similar come from? The fact that one arranges to meet at a certain time on a certain day, and there is an unspoken expectation of maintaining that commitment--or at least calling ahead of time to cancel. That was courteous.

So in a way, this was like being stood up. But Muraki doesn't wither in the burning heat of rejection. He sits next to an empty bed, smiling a restrained smile as he pulls the top off a pen and replaces it multiple times.

After an appropriate amount of silence, he flips his journal open and makes an entry.]

Sheik? This is Doctor Muraki speaking. I seem to recall setting an appointment with you for eleven forty-five this morning, and it is now twelve-thirty...ah. [He checks the time.] My apologies, one in the afternoon. I just wanted to check in and make sure everything is all right. I hope nothing happened to you or your loved ones.

I would also like to reschedule. If you're not in literal pieces right now, or otherwise incapacitated, please respond back as soon as possible. Thank you.

[Muraki had stooped over to get something out of his bag, but then turns and lifts a delicate brow at Sheik's interjection. Giving him a few seconds to finish his sentence, he continues fishing through his things.]

It's actually necessary for us to finish your examination at the clinic. There are some tools I can't fit into a satchel.

[Not moving. He's got that slightly off-kilter look he gets when it's not him speaking.]

What else do you want from me?

[He emerges from his search through his bag with an empty medical jar, holding it up like he was toasting Sheik with a 100 watt smile.]

Samples. [♥]

[His expression shifts from disgust, to that of reluctant obedience. Seems Zelda wants nothing to do with that.]

...yes Doctor. [He holds out a hand for the jar.]

[Who did? Apart from a bizarre few, was there anyone who looked forward to putting certain fluids in a jar? He tilts forward so he can close the gap between their hands and passes it to Sheik.]

I will allow you to have some privacy during the act, but in case you decide to run from me again...[Smaller, more contained smile.] I'll be standing right outside the door.

tch. [Fine then. Sheik gets up and heads to the bathroom. A few minutes (and a small argument with himself) later, he returns. Here you go, Muraki. One jar of someone-needs-to-drink-more-water as requested.]

[He takes a brief look at the sample before securing it inside one of the two bio-hazard bags he brought inside his larger satchel.] I appreciate it.

[Which was a weird thing to say after someone just gave you a jar of their pee. But Muraki doesn't think anything more of it as he pulls out more tools. A bottle of rubbing alcohol, cotton balls, a latex strap, and a needle.]

Now take off your shirt and lie back. I need your blood. [It was far more fascinating to him than the other fluids.]

[More unpleasant business... Sheik does as he's told, first taking his shirt off, then settling on the bed again, although he does prop himself up a little with his pillows. Frowning, he offers his arm. At least there's one thing Muraki won't have a problem with, and that's finding a vein.]

[There are a few steps that Muraki skips for the sake of time: he knows Sheik isn't allergic to the things he was using, so he doesn't ask. He also knows that Sheik isn't taking any blood thinners (unless he was seeing another doctor behind his back), but he still doesn't tie the latex too tightly around his upper forearm. Finding the vein, he pats it and finds the right angle to plunge the needle.]

Just remember to relax. [He instructs him robotically as he soaks the cotton swab. He knows many patients tense up when they feel the cold swipe of alcohol on the vulnerable part of their arm.]

[Sheik is surprisingly well-behaved for this. He doesn't even flinch when the needle stabs into his arm. He knows better than to fight the doctor on this one, and it's weirdly fascinating to watch his own blood drain out of him in such a way.]

[Once again his attention bleeds from Sheik as he focuses on his work. He injects the needle into his skin in a quick, smooth motion and removes the latex strap before pushing the vacutainer into the holder. As soon as he does, rich red liquid fills the tube.

He takes care to pull the needle out at the same angle he inserted it and and presses gauze on the wound.]
Good boy.

[Sheik scowls faintly at the comment. He's not a child. Or a dog, for that matter. But he stays still and quiet all the same. He hopes Muraki won't use tape to bandage him this time. He hates tape.]

Is that all you need?

[Action]

[identity profile] letsplaysurgeon.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately that's what he does. He uses surgical tape to hold the cotton ball down on top of the entry point of the needle, and then goes back to his bag to put the blood sample away.]

I'm afraid not. You will have to come with me to the clinic to finish the check-up.

[Action]

[personal profile] ombra_lira 2011-05-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh tape how he hates you. Sheik scratches at it briefly, then sits up to put his shirt back on. He really just wants this to be over with, damn it.]

Yes, doctor. [He sounds so thrilled.]

[He zips up his bag, which sounds loud and abrasive in the silence of the room. Throwing the strap over his shoulder, he stands up and starts towards the door with the obvious expectation of Sheik to follow him.] Let's get going, then.

[Of course. Sheik follows him obediently, completely silent until they reach the clinic.]
